Cold Brew Coffee at Home
Cold brew coffee is a smooth, refreshing alternative to traditional hot coffee, and it's easy to make at home. Here’s a simple guide to get you started.
Ingredients
- Coarsely ground coffee: 1 cup
- Cold or room temperature water: 4 cups
Equipment
- A large jar or pitcher
- A fine mesh strainer or coffee filter
- A separate container for storing the finished coffee
Instructions
- Combine Coffee and Water: In your jar or pitcher, combine the coarsely ground coffee and water. Stir gently to ensure all the coffee grounds are saturated.
- Steep: Cover the jar or pitcher and let the mixture steep at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours. The longer you steep, the stronger the coffee will be.
- Strain: After steeping, strain the coffee through a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter into a separate container. If you find the coffee is still gritty, you can strain it again.
- Serve: To serve, dilute the cold brew concentrate with water, milk, or your favorite milk alternative to taste. Add ice and sweeteners like sugar or syrups if desired.
- Store: Keep any unused cold brew concentrate in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Tips
- Experiment with different coffee beans to find your favorite flavor.
- Cold brew can also be used as a base for various coffee drinks, such as iced lattes or coffee cocktails.
Enjoy your homemade cold brew coffee!
