Ingredients
For the Steak:
- 2 ribeye steaks (about 1 inch thick)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
For the Mushroom Sauce:
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Steak
- Bring to Room Temperature:
- Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This helps them cook evenly.
- Season:
- Generously season both sides of the steaks with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Cook the Steak
- Heat the Skillet:
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil or butter over medium-high heat until hot.
- Add the Steaks:
- Place the seasoned steaks in the skillet. Avoid crowding the pan if you're using multiple steaks.
- Sear:
- Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare. Adjust the time based on your desired doneness (use a meat thermometer if necessary).
- Rest:
- Once cooked, remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest on a plate for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.
Step 3: Make the Mushroom Sauce
- Add Butter and Mushrooms:
- In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and the sliced mushrooms. Sauté over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mushrooms are golden brown and tender.
- Add Garlic:
- Stir in 2 cloves of minced garlic and cook for another minute until aromatic.
- Deglaze the Pan:
- Pour in 1 cup of beef broth and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet with a wooden spoon.
- Simmer:
- Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing it to reduce slightly.
- Add Cream:
- Stir in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and let the sauce simmer for another 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4: Serve
- Plate the Dish:
- Slice the rested steaks and place them on individual plates.
- Add Sauce:
- Generously spoon the mushroom sauce over the sliced steak.
- Garnish:
- Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top for a pop of color and flavor.
- Enjoy:
- Serve immediately with your choice of sides, such as mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
Enjoy your delectable steak with mushroom sauce!
